Try these drivers. The latest version is 1.7 Also try using the network scanning instead of the usb port.
The CS 305/255 can dramatically lower your TCO total cost of ownership...Kyocera's SMARTtech is affordable
Okay for some reason the link above is actually a link to the web page for the drivers. But when adding it to the post it turns into an advertisment for the CS 305.

KM/CS-1820 TWAIN Scannig with Windows 7
I have a cusomter with a Windows 7 PC connected via USB to an 1820. We have run out of things to try. I am thinking it is a compatability problem. Below is an excerpt from my customer's email.
Tried at least three versions of PaperPort (11SE, 12 and 12.1), with the latest patches from them.
Tried different USB cables and differentcomputers. The second Windows 7 computer gets the same error.
The printer works; the scanner works in some programs, partially. We get the cannot connect to machine
Can anybody shed some light on this please?Tags: 1820, adf, cannont connect, can’t, dramatically, error, error message, greyed out, kyocera, laptop, scanner, tech, twain, usb, windows 7
