Replace black drum to resolve issue.

l have had similar error code before and noted the black Dev coupling breakage. Replace the coupler with modified one, you will need a pin through the shaft to lock the coupler.

          Its the black dev coupling.

The gear part number is FC8-4338-000.

Thanks i service the toner hopper resevior and the sensors around it and the machine has improved .
it can now make good copies without displaying the above error code.
But copies are a bit faint on the end of one side.
Are faint towards on the front , hope the faintness will go.

I wanted to add to this because I just fixed one that was not a normal solution.

The most common cause of this problem is the cheap BK colored coupling on the developer unit. Canon issued a new one that attaches with a metal pin, cause they kept breaking.

The unit I just fixed is old. The solution was this: remove the worn felt/plastic pad on the sub hopper assembly. Where the developer's entry, and the subhopper's exit are. Also, remove the white plastic housing that is on the front of the subhopper's feed screw. Pull from the bottom first, then unclip the top. Vacuum out the clogged toner feed screw. Then reattach.

The felt/plastic seal on the subhopper's outlet was blocking the toner from entering the developer. The felt/glue had worn out, which caused the seal to slip out of place. The toner was jammed inside the feed screw, keeping it from moving. The seal's removal may cause a leak. I'll update this post if that ends up happening.
