    Noise AdvC5030

Ok, I have a customer that just purchased an Adv C5030 in January. They keep complaining about a loud noise that it will make but we have yet to hear it when we go out. They say there is no rhyme or reason, does it whether they are copying or printing, any paper size etc. They have tried to capture it for us on video with their phone but it is a quick noise and stops by the time they get to it. Before this copier, they had a C3480, those use to make a noise from the transfer belt if you didn't have enough powder on it when replacing cleaning unit, they are comparing this noise to that noise. Any ideas.

Try replacing the itb cleaning blade if they think it sounds similar to their old machine (cheap and easy). I have also seen c5030 series machines that make a rumbling sound when the fuser gets old too.

I'd check out the fuser film first - that loud noise from the C3480 series was the blade being dry, but I have noticed it sounds a lot like the fuser area on the C5000 series.

Usually the film has grease that tends to dry up. You can also clear all the grease that is applied to the fuser gears...Canon have a bunch of publications about it.

Is it a new machine, or is it new to the customer with some volume on it?

Best way to confirm if it is the fuser film causing the noise is to select Copy and select the paper cassettes setting, the fuswer will revolve at half speed, another way is to open the right door and close it. The fuser drive, main drive can also cause noises as well. The main drive runs all 4 devs and drums, and can be tested in service mode. The fuser drive will not make any noise in service mode.

Just had a 5250 with same issue. Went there twice and no noise. She kidnapped me twice with I was on another machine so I brought a fuser assembly and swapped that out. I think the fixing films can get real noisy at times. She even took a video and it did sound very loud but sounded normal when I was there. I never heard the noise. She said it quit doing it when I brought the other fuser. I don't know if taking the fixing film and lightly greasing the part they grease will help. She called for a noise on finisher today but no noise. (one week later)

I have had a couple where the fixng film grease has dried out and made a loud groaning noise? Unless that was the customer lol!
But yes clean around the edge and put some new grease worked for me until I got the new ones.

              Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone, we did finally get to hear the noise and yes it is coming from the fuser. New Film and grease, hopefully problem is fixed.
