    canon image runner 2230 unable to duplex from tray 1

    I have a canon imagerunner 2230.
    It has 2 trays and a bypass
    It copies perfectly singlesided from all trays.
    It copies double sided from tray 2 and bypass.
    Tray 1 is default.

    Tray 1 has seen some heavy usage.
    I tried moving rollers from tray 2 to 1 that did not work...
    I tried cleaning rollers in paper path that did not work...
    You can't move the trays, they are different sizes...

    I am thinking its either going to be cassette one pickup motor or cassete one pickup clutch... or both...
    since the rollers work fine... and the duplex unit works fine...

    any thoughts would be appreciated...

      What position is paper during jam ?

      Does two sided jam from tray 1 happen on copying, & printing ??

          machine is used as a copier... and only jams when duplexing letter size from tray 1... paper stuck all throughout machine... jam code... don't have that... also... only jams with letter size... not legal... also... machine has a pickup solenoid for tray 1 not a clutch... I think its the solenoid... I have seen this style solenoid mess up timing before... your thoughts...

                      A couple of things come to mind 1 is there are rubber pad on the flappers on the the right side door that stick causing the flappers not to move properly, just remove them and any residue left and 2 sometime the lower right door if update door not replace the old foam piece becomes deformed and causes similar problems.

                          That series was never good at duplexing letter. Too much paper curl and then it would have trouble going back through. Remove all the damper pads behind the sensor flags to start with. If you can get customer to run ltr-r it should work fine. If they have a stapler finisher, it won't staple in the right position.

                                  Hi,

                                  Have a look in user mode and make sure that paper type is plain. The duplex is limited by the paper grammage.

                                      If it is the black and white 2230 I would try another feed unit. The feed units are interchangeable. Swap the guides and plates if you want to see if it is the feed unit before you order one, Since lower tray seems to work.

                                          Define high usage...I've had these with over 1.5 million on them. Jam code is necessary. If tray 1 is registered as heavy it will run single sided but curl too much and jam duplexing. Also look closely at registration sensor actuator...the end wears off of them and paper flies over it.
