Re: Anyone using cordless screw drivers for field work?
I probably posted this already, but this is my favorite:
Craftsman Grip-Driver 47473.jpgSchroder 47473 Mag Tip.jpg
It was re-badged as Craftsman Grip-Drive or originally Schroder 47473 Magnetic. It's got a nice heavy handle, and plenty of torque with the handle cantilevered. You can still find new ones in the package if you look hard enough. =^..^=

I generally do not like ratcheting types either unless they have very little slop and the knurled area is in the right spot. I think I am just lucky to have the one I have atm....lolLeave a comment:

Re: Anyone using cordless screw drivers for field work?
For about 10 years I hated the ratcheting function. I would soak all the oil out of the bearings and pour the ratchet full of superglue. =^..^=Leave a comment:

Re: Anyone using cordless screw drivers for field work?
I have the DeWalt gyro cordless and it has been really nice the last 18 months or so. Battery seems to last me weeks at a time and takes like 10 mins to charge full from empty.
I also have a normal ratcheting screwdriver that is basically a megapro. Works really nicely as well when I don't want to carry my bag in.Leave a comment:

One thing I will care always in double are screwdrivers. I have one electric and Wera PH2 manual in my toolbox.
You really need them both close to you. I might bought even third one, JIS style.

Re: Anyone using cordless screw drivers for field work?
I did the same thing as you until I upgraded to a quality screwdriver from a 12-volt line. I purchased a Milwaukee 2401 M12 single-speed screwdriver. It has a clutch to handle tiny wall plugs in plastic and enough power to drive deck screws. Unlike small drives, it has a variable speed trigger rather than an on/off trigger. I'll never purchase another little 4V or 8V screwdriver again, even though it is a pistol-shaped tool and weighty due to the powerful motor. Includes a carrying bag, two batteries, and a charger. I like it because it doesn't have more torque than my arm.Leave a comment:

Re: Anyone using cordless screw drivers for field work?
I use my ratcheting Snap-On 95% of the time as well, but I'll break out my Dewalt gyroscopic cordless when I need to remove a large number of screws....like replacing hopper gears on a c7065. It adjusts speed and direction with your wrist movement and doesn't have a crazy amount of torque like a drill that'll strip screws. Its great for light household use as well. It does take a little while to get used to but I highly recommend it.

This one has been my very faithful companion since 2008.
If anyone knows of where I can order for an extra one let me know it please. I will be going for electric one without losing this.Leave a comment:
