No, with CDS you can only download & update the machine. You don't need the SST when using the CDS updater.

But you need to use the SST if your HDD has failed with an E602 error etc.

one of my machine has a mirroring kit, can i use this to make a copy?

No, but you can update printer with cds updater in service mode.

Is there a possibility to extract the firmware data from a working IR6255i machine to enable me to use SST to format another hdd for another machine? Ty in advance.

You could simply swap the HDD, i've never tried but in theory it should work. If it does work clone the HDD to a new HDD & fit this back to the donor machine.

Or the correct way use the SST to upload the SSW to your new HDD.

You can update the machine from management settings, you don't need sst, firmware or service mode just an active n/w connection.

I have an identical machine with defective HDD, no format firmware installed on SST. Need them both copier working to finish a project. Was just looking for another option to get them working.

This is in service mode, yes? Connecting the machine via network I can opt to update firmware. With the SST I can obtain a copy with my service pc running the SST. Can I opt to backup my old firmware along the way? What I meant is will the update be initiated in the machine menu or the SST itself?
