    Color Thoughts

I have a customer that is needing to replace a Color Savin unit which is very old. I have several 52xx series in the field and I could roll them one in with 30k on the count. But I also have access to some low meter 55xx units. I am not yet familiar with them. Any thoughts on the differences between the two as far as reliability and functionality. The 5240 series has been good for us. But I may put in a 5540. Just gauging thoughts. Thanks in advance!

52xx - itbs fails ,cost of toner will increase, are you just gonna give client box?

55xx initial outlay - cost of oem drums....otherwise appears to be a solid unit

I've supported a few 55xx series machines and they're overall very solid and reliable. The only trouble I have had with them is making the ADF scan straight. Once that was fixed, they've been solid. Also cost of consumables is far less with the 55xx series than the 52xx series.

55xx series is putting techs out work...they are so reliable.

Also, the color quality is improved over the 52xx. Not a revolution, but gradients are better and so is coverage.

            My thoughts:

The 5200 was a good unit, the 5500 series is outstanding as already mentioned. Cost of drums and fuser are high but life is way better. If you can get a mark 2 or 3 5500 then that is the way to go. Some very early 5500's had some issues (minor) which are long gone. I have seen a few 5500's go the duration of the lease with only scan line calls.

52XX, very dependable machines, over the years they have rock solid. As for the belt, have learned to just walk it back, 10 minutes and done, on some it might come back and others it never does. And yes the machine level is checked. But very good running machines.

C55xx all day they are so reliable we mainly only ever gets calls for worn drums, if I replace all rollers & a drum I won't hear back until the drum fails next time.

C52xx were OK but had a few issues, E075, broken toner or dev drive etc.

C5500 series are solid as a rock. I've had some in field for 3-4 years already with literally no calls.

I wish the cost of the drum wasn't so insanely hight...at least in Canada it is like $800 dealer cost.
