[Error Code] iPF825 hardware error 03130031-2618

    Hi all,

I'm considering buying a Canon iPF825, but when I went to check it out today, it's throwing the hardware error shown in the title at boot up.
I did a little googling, and that seems to (maybe) be simply a dried up printhead, which wouldn't surprise me at all, since I'm told the machine has been sitting unplugged for almost a year.
However, I see multiple references to that same error being other, more serious, things as well, such as possibly as bad main controller PCB.

My question to you fine folks is this: If I buy this machine, how likely is it that I'm about to get stuck with a pile of junk that I'm either going to dump a ton of money into, or will end up hauling to the trash?
I don't mind replacing consumables, such as the printhead, ink tanks, maintenance cartridge, etc...
I expect to do that to refurb a machine of this vintage, but I'd rather not get into a money pit situation.
    Your expert advice appreciated!

I asked that same question a while back, and got this answer from someone much wiser than myself:

VH high voltage error. In order of likelihood can be caused by the printhead (60%), main board (30%), head relay PWB/carriage relay PWB or ribbon cables (10%). First replace print head. Second check ribbon cables and connections. Third replace main board. Fourth replace carriage assy or separately carriage relay PWB and head relay PWB. Fifth replace carriage ribbon cable.

There is always the distinct possibility that you're stepping right into one of those money-pit situations.

I remember a specific case in which we had replaced every board on an iPF-850. Canons response was: " ... replace them all again." By that point we had already surpassed the purchase price of a whole working machine. The manager at the time made the right choice of buying a used whole machine to finish out the service contract.

Quite a lot of that previous machine ended up getting parted out, and the problem never resurfaced. It was a mystery that we never solved. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

      Well, that's not encouraging!
I was hoping we could drop a $300 printhead in it and be ready to rock, but if I may be about to drop $1000+ on other parts and consumables, it just won't be worth it.
Thanks for the info. I'll have to think hard about this purchase, then.

Overall, it's not encouraging. The longer it sits idle, the worse the chance of it coming back to life.

Were it me, I wouldn't take the risk on a machine that you haven't gotten any kind of a print off of. =^..^=

That seems like solid advice, thanks!
This is exactly why I figured I'd ask here first. I always get good, clear answers.
