Far as this model is concerned it should only click once for A4 or A3 copies, maybe it had modified counter fitted, as many dealers like IKON, use to use this
    double click counters.

If it has one fitted , you can open the back or the copier , near D.C controller you should see a small PCB which is not part of NP6028 with about 5 or 6 coloured wires tapped ontyo the dc controller.

this counter board will have an small VR adjuster were to get optimum adj only to double click for A3 only.

If has one fitted let me know, hope this helps.

      NP6028

At this stage of its life I would be pleased just to have the machine working at all. Check with your original vendor as I never recall any of the machines doing that. I do know this was not one of Canon policys.

does it double click on manual feed or does the same from the cassette trays?
check for any dip S/W on D.C. as well, compare to other d.c.
try installing the d.c on other copier you mentioned to see if it double clicks.
I will try locate service manual for your model .

check on dc if there are dip switches and if so normally dip switch bit 6 switch off, because on NP4050/6041 can be double clicked by enabling dip switch bit 6 on,
maybe same on NP6028 but will try and check for you.
Try and look carefully a bank of dip switches on D.C. Cont.

You should enable the size entry for bypass to ON in the custom setting, so once you put paper in the bypass tray, it will ask you to select the size. If not it will scan in freesize in this case it will scan up to A3 size, so the meter will click 2 time.
