    Control Panel Frozen

I have a (hold the laughter) certified Ir8500 with a control panel that at first let the client make copies but it wouldn't reset, not even on it's own you had to turn off the copier in order to reset. I had it do a scan disk check and by the time I returned it was ready to download. Reload SST in slow mode (hold 28 down and power up), completed it-no problem.
Right...Now everything boots up like it should only now the control panel is completly frozen. No keys will work. I can't even access service mode. And no error codes. To me it sounds like a main controller issue since it's directly connected. Any other thoughts?

Try reseating the ram chips. Next I would probably reseat the control panel and main controller connectors then replace the hard drive. Do you have a parts machine to swap out parts?

Yes I agree with tecket, it sounds like a stuck key on the control panel.
Reset key might be worn out and stuck on.

Pull out the transport drawer, unplug paper deck,df,reader, finisher, etc. Pop the primary cover off and disconnect the plugs at the top to the process unit. Boot the machine and see if you get any response from panel. I got sent to a 105 about 2 months ago that had the control panel intermittently freezing up. Ended up replacing the registration assembly....the wiring to the clutch, sensor and trans/sep HV were corroded and leaking.

Thank you for the suggestions. I do have a control panel and a main controller on hand to test with. Let you know what happens after monday.

                Final Update.

I got back to the ir8500 and believe it or not it was working just fine. I checked all the keys and connections no problems. No error codes associated with this problem. Very strange.

Poltergeists!!! Sounds like the control panel itself is probably the problem child. A "stuck" key type problem?!?
