    Canon IRC5870 Error E00014

I am getting a Code E-000014 on this C5870U Looks like flat spots on the Top Fuser roller
might be causing the problem. They only have 25K on them. Any reason that this is happening? Are there any updates for this issue?

You are correct on the flat spots causing your issues with the error code
there are service settings that can help with the flat spots, but we also take the NIP pressure down a full turn as well. The more these things sit the worse they are.

Try these settings after rebuilding the fuser:
    Level 1 FX-CROT at 3
    Level 2 DM-SW at 0, FXMSG-SW at 0, FXERRLVL at 3
Accidents don't just happen. They must be carelessly planned.

Lower the sleep time to 90mins max. U can lower pressure till four full turns. Replace the lower roller if is has a flat spot too.

Replace the whole machine for a surf fixing type.

As has already been alluded to, this problem occurs because the copier sits still too much. The problem is the same as the 3200 series. Software and settings changes can minimize this problem, but I predict that your fuser rollers will never make life. I only have one iRC5058 left in my world, and I look forward to the day it gets replaced. In the meantime, when I get the call for E014, I just replace the 2 rollers...

There was a connector mod that helped a lot, I can't remember if it was for this machine or just the IRc6800, does anybody know for sure?

I recall one for the 3200, some sort of fan mod...

there was a connector mod which was just a spacer to make the connector stick out further. You can accomplish the same thing with a few washers, but the 70 series already had the mod installed on it.

We still have a couple dozen of these wonderful machines left and they are being replaced rapidly by the 7055 and 7065. We are going to donate our last one to the state engineering school and let them blow the sucker up!!! I will get video from it if they let me.

Lower the temperature on both of the fuser rolls in service mode. As stated, back the nip off about 3 turns, jog the rolls(service mode) and make sure the heat adding/removing roll is clean. These fusers run filthy and if the heat adding roll is dirty, its thermistor will make it run hotter. When it contacts the ufr,the web is cammed away from the ufr.Make sure it is doing this correctly. That heat adding roll will put flat spots on as well. I can get 120k out of a set of rolls no problem. The FXMSG-SW setting will have no impact on roller life. It just disables roller life message and error generated when counter reaches threshold(E008).If you are only getting 25k out of the rolls and resetting counters when replacing them you will NEVER get a fuser life error anyway! Canon cheaped out and used a thin aluminum ufr to save money, thats why it has extra heat roll. Thin aluminum doesn't retain heat at all. "More accurate temp control" with heat adding roll is BS.
