Nope. I imagine that would complicate things, but thankfully there are no passwords or authentication for me to worry about.

How do I know whether I have the Multi PDL Printer Kit E1 installed in my iR3570 or not? Right now, it is not listed on any of the installed parts menus, and (most importantly) I get an error whenever I try to print via the USB port. (The network port works for sending scanned documents but not for printing.)

All of that makes me think that I don't have the kit, except that when I opened up the back of the machine and compared the BootROM daughter board that plugs into the main board of the machine, everything about it is identical to the ones pictured on the Canon website in the Multi PDL Printer Kit E1.

Assuming that I have the correct driver on my computer and have the Multi PDL Printer Kit E1 installed, what else might cause the NG (#853) errors that I keep getting? Is it possible that printing has been disabled somewhere deep down in the firmware? Is there any way to change that?

One thing that makes me think that something is fishy is that in Additional Functions > Printer Settings there is no Utilities menu, only the Settings one.

Thanks in advance for any help or advice. This forum is pretty amazing.

Alright. Well, it looks like I don't have it installed after all, then. Thanks for the help.

hit counter check and then choose device configuration. It should say UFR, PCL or PS if you have it installed

After installing PDL kit E1 make the following selections and check the state
    of the following bits: COPIER > ACC-STS > PDLFNC1.
111x xxxx xxxx xxxx (0: OFF; 1: ON)
In the case of the PDL-FNC1, bits 31 through bits
    16 are indicated.
Be sure that the following bits are '1': 31, 30, 29.
