reynolds and reynolds car dealership software

Has anyone had any experience working with this software and getting it to work correctly with Canon equipment?
Currently customer is using Lexmark MFP's, but the cost is very high so that is why we are wanting to try a Canon IRC.

Our biggest problem is that when printing color to the 5185 (internal print board) it is causing the machine to count the B/W print as color even though the document has no color in it at all. We have no control of the print driver or the availibility to manipulate the driver. It is a form that prints on pre printed documents when taking your car in for service.

    Any ideas are appreciated!!!

It is a 3 page form with B/W text and all are being counted as color clicks. If we had access to the print driver that is built into the program I think we could manage it. I know it works off the PCL language and when we forced the machine to B/W it obviously printed correctly, but then other documents that they wanted in color were also being print in B/W. We were going to diable the internal print and put a fiery on the 5180 to see how it processed the jobs, but I am not sure when we are going to try that at this point.

the form that is b&w text with no color, can it be set up to print as a different job

Example> say the other two forms have color and one is b&w only> set up two different jobs

I have read your post and the replies.
The job must be coming in as "Color" even if there doesn't appear to be anything other than 'Black' text.
Is the text truly black (K) or is it composite black?
Sounds like you will need the fiery to get this to work.
I had car dealerships that use antiquated systems like this, that can only print to "HP" devices.
The forms are stored on the printer memory and when the customer prints he is only sending data, the printer puts the data into the correct fields.

we have looked at the document through a high powered loop and can find no color being printed. The text is black only and not 4 color. We have found out the software is using a Lexmark Optra 616 driver (PCL) that is controlled by Reynolds and Reynolds. They write the software and then sell the printers, supplies and service at extremely high prices which is why we were contacted by the dealership, but this one is a little bit of a head scratcher.

Re: reynolds and reynolds car dealership software

Most color printers and MFPs, when they see any print job that doesn't have the appropriate black and white or greyscale command in it, will assume that the job is color, even if it contains no color data. I see this a lot when a mainframe tries to print without using the correct driver or with no driver at all. The job prints, but is counted as a color click.

You would need to find out what this command is, and insert it into the print data stream.

One way to do that is to set up a PC with the "Generic" print driver and share it. This driver will allow you to to prepend or append nearly any command(s) you want, even ones containing the "Escape" character.

basically the employee enters all the customer info into the software program at the PC when a car is being dropped off for service they hit execute and then the form fields are filled in and printed onto the forms.
we are possibly going there in the morning to try the fiery. I will update when we have more information.

Unfortunatley we don't have any access to the driver, but will look into where the data goes when the employee sends the data to print. From what we can tell the data goes to a server that is controlled by Reynolds and Reynolds.

Which Kyocera models are you using? Any of them color?
We have the software printing correctly, It is just the B/W printing as a color page being the biggest issue at this point. Another tech went out on Friday so I will find out how things went when I get to the office in the AM. Thanks for your repsonse.
