    [CQ] IR 3220c

One of my clients at a print shop has an IR 3220c with a feiry

CQ problem horizontal lines like jitter lines on prints especially noticeable on Solids (CMYK)

Machine was interrupted mid copy cycle and Image Transfer unit removed.... Observed these lines on solid print on transfer belt. Transfer belt replaced- CQ issue still persists. Lines vary in width and distance between them seems fairy irregular.

I have a photobucket link to a scanned image taken from a copy off this machine pay no attention to the vertical lines on the scan they were caused by the scanner.

    Thanks
    Mike

Great Document. I was explaining to my client that the lines looked like gear chatter and this certainly helps to reinforce my theory. Will do further investigation now including drum drive.
It looks as though non of the gears with respect to ITU including the swing gear set, have been replaced. I will examine closely and let you know what I find.
      Thanks for the great reply.

sometimes these gears have a deceiving look to them/
        they appear to look good-
when in fact as everything kicks in >
these helical gears > with slight wear >walk over each other/this small side gear unit is a pain to replace
the updated swing unit with the new black gear is pressed in place/ so u need to maneuver it back in place without the other gear > then position the pin to the other gear>
trick>> I use a small piece of gum on end of pin>slide it in> gum holds pin in place if u need to rotate gear to fit in place on backside cutout- I use this gum trick on all pins > works all the time >prevents drop out frustrations> works great on those Manual feed rollers that require a pin in shaft to slide gear over

normally gear chatter from the ITB results in the colors not aligning correctly. where the drum drive will give you the pitch lines from front to back. I would highly recommend getting a manual and taking pictures during the process as you have to remove the main and DC controllers from the rear of the machine in order to access the drum drive assembly. There are a ton of connectors and wires can get lost during re-assembly. Take your time and plan on 1/2 a day or more during this process the first time you do this.
Accidents don't just happen. They must be carelessly planned.
