[Misc] Canon iRC5185 - Strange Test Prints and Magenta Registration

I went to a customer site to replace a Magenta Drum/Dev unit that was failing, had reached the end of its life and was leaving massive magenta streaks across the entire page.

After i replaced the unit, i printed off a bunch of test pages not really sure what to make of them. If i just print out one test page, the fault is minor. However, if i print out consecutive multiple test pages, things get pretty ugly pretty quick.

I've attached PDF's of the test prints:

    Test 1:test 1.pdf
You can see that at the top right of this page there is minor streaking and smudging with what looks like the K drum unit... by the eight print out it moves all the way across the page.

    Test 2:test 2.pdf
This one is more obvious, and only seems to occur where the grey boxes are darkest... by the 15th print it is an extreme image fault.

    Test 3:test 3.pdf
The first image looks okay, the second image looks like the K drum/ dev unit is at fault, by the fifteenth image it extends across the entire page with Cyan as well as Black.

    Test 4:test 4.pdf
The first image you can see faded spots or voids throughout the magenta and the cyan... this magenta unit was brand new, just installed.
The second image is okay with the exception of the magenta colour registration... actually i thought this one was kind of odd, considering how bad some of the other test prints were, i printed off multiple copies of this and the only fault is the magenta registration.
This third image again highlights the magenta registration, how it is just slightly off and you can see a white void between the magenta and the cyan.

At the moment, the only complaint from the customer is that the magenta registration is off, so some of the documents they print have a small red shadow effect.

Really stuck with this one, initially i tried swapping out the K-Drum/ Dev unit with another machine, but the fault stayed with machine. All of the Drum/ Dev units are relatively new. I pulled out, inspected the ITB and the ITB cleaning blade... again both reletively new. The ITB is not even at 50% yet, and i changed all of its components out myself. Fixing Unit is at about 25%

How does somebody go about correcting colour registration?
Any ideas on the other image faults? Waste toner? dragging in the fixing unit? Something with the ITB i maybe missed?

    Blur_Miss Reg TP09-10.pdf

    iRC5180_Color_Shift_Prevention _&_Correction.pdf

When coping or printing the color registration would vary in the sub-scan direction approximately .5mm between each color.

for Misregistration occurring in the front to rear (cross feed) direction only. (see picReplaced the Drum Drive Assembly (FM2-5360-000).

To Clear the Printer Registration Data without performing a DC-CON clear

perform the following in service mode.

    Enter Service Mode *2 8 *
    * 2 for Level 2
Copier > Function > Clear > Reg Clear

    Highlight Reg/Clear and press OK
Note:After completing the Reg Clear, reboot the Copier and perform a Full Auto Gradation.

      Spectacular,

As always, above and beyond when it comes to helpful advice.

Venture a guess as to what the other image fault might be?

      Thanks Heaps,

First i opened up the machine and verified the laser range settings were the same on the laser units as they were in service mode, then i used service mode to set all lasers to the center position, then i performed Reg Clear...

seemed to fix the problem of magenta registration... it is still out on some test prints very very very slightly, so i will have to keep an eye on this machine to see if it gets worse again. will try swapping out the laser unit if it happens again. (probably when it happens again is more accurate)

But for right now, on the specific documents the user was having issues with, magenta registration seems to be okay.

I tried adjusting the Registration Speed as per the other document provided... no change whatsoever to image quality.
