    IR 6000 Corona wire replacement?:

I print a lot of newsletters with photos.
Photos come out with horizontal streaks.
Same thing with large solid black areas.
I suspect the corona wires are shot.
I've never done corona wire replacement .
Should I attempt this? I fear I'll make things worse.
Is there anything else I could do to bring back good black toner coverage?
    Thank you for your attention.

It's one of the few skills that's difficult to teach. Each loop must be spun enough to hold a loop, but not break ... and on and on.

You're probably right about the corona wires.

I think my best suggestion is, that if you can remove the charge units and carry them into your local copy shop, you can probably find a Canon tech that can still string wires for you. Look for someone with gray hair. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

That gray hair remark sums it all up.

              YIKES!!!
              Ok then.
              You've all scared me off.
              So,
In lieu of not finding a local grey tech I looked at Precision Roller Co. for pre assembled replacement corona units.
              Pre transfer corona $199
              Primary corona $215
              transfer seperation $269
Would I need All of these or could I get good coverage just one or two units? If so, which ones?
I'd hate to have to spend over $750 if I don't have to.

Call in a tech to rewire them. It will cost far less

The 'gray hair tech' is a much cheaper option, as he would be able to detect if there are other issues with the machine, all at a reduced cost.

                      I'm in Massachusetts.
I found a guy with NO hair.
Said he might drop in sometime soon.
                      Gotts my fingers crossed.

That beats my gray hair. I'm in NJ anyway but was supposed to head to Cape Cod today and backed out because of the weather. You never know. I could have done it on my way. Good luck

If he worked on 6000's he will have done the corona wires a gazillion times before. And probably done his fair share of crawling about on carpets looking for springs.

As said, worth it just to get him to look at the rest of the machine.
