Epson AMC 4000/5000 booklet finisher issues

    Hi everyone,

We’re an Epson dealer and have been experiencing persistent jamming issues with the finisher units on the AMC series—right from day one. Despite several modifications being implemented since installation, we’re still receiving regular complaints from customers about jams in the finisher.

From what I understand, these finishers (saddle stitch) are manufactured by Kyocera. Given the frequency of these issues, we're becoming increasingly hesitant to install units with the finisher attached. That said, the AMC range itself has been one of the most reliable and well-performing devices we've worked with, and I’m not ready to walk away from it just yet because of this component.

Has anyone else encountered similar problems? If so, are there any solutions or workarounds you've found effective beyond the standard Epson-provided modifications?

Appreciate any advice or shared experiences—thanks in advance!

We have a handful of them in the field, and other than setting up presets for customers to use, we haven't had any issues whatsoever(until tomorrow, because I said that). We also used to carry Kyocera when they used the exact models of finisher, external AND internal, and not a lot of problems. The inner finishers had connection issues between the main connector on the inner finisher and the machine, as well as the board failing twice, but otherwise, not a lot of issues.

With the external finisher, we had two weird issues, ended up resolving both. One problem was when printing multiple sheets of letter(portrait), the finisher would hold the paper in what I call a "drum" in the finisher, and then it would output all pages at the same time. There was a factory defect in the plastic in that particular unit that would rip the lead edge of the paper.

The other problem was when folding booklets, it would do the second fold crooked, and ended up being the adjustment plate for A4 or LTR was loose on one side.

This being said, what jam codes are you experiencing, what size paper, job type, etc?

Finisher Paper Jam code 134 occurs when a customer mistakenly removes paper that is being aligned in the processing tray in the below figure, causing the sensor in the figure to detect that there is no paper.
      Update firmware

Countermeasures for Inner Finisher paper jam sub:107
The error was caused by the peeled SUS plate on the upper side of the paper guide inside the N2 cover.
Change for the New ASP PARTS GUIDE MIDDLE ASSY SP/1947582
Old ASP(PARTS GUIDE MIDDLE ASSY SP/1942079) can be used after checking that the SUS plate isn't peeled off.

Countermeasure for Floor Finisher paper jam error of subtype Code :106
The cause was the paper guide(plastic sheet) did not lift up enough and paper hit the plastic sheet.
      Update firmware

But there is a more 2025 report for paper jam sub code 106(FIN Processing Part Jam (Feed delay)) or 110(FIN Bundle Eject Jam (Feed delay))
There is too much information to share (and I can't share the PDF and Excel) with what to change and how.
