I do firmware updates like cleaning rollers.
I have one 2GB thumb dedicated for 4/4e and rest like you 7,8 up to the latest goes on 2 32GB thumbs, one is my main( 3/4 inch short one I hate them to stand out from machine port) and another Kingston for backup. I update my main thumb drive regularly to keep it with latest firmware versions.
I never ever hesitate to update firmware. We are small so every machine lies in my territory and it's my personal responsibility to keep everything alive and running.A tree is known by its fruit, a man by his deeds. A good deed is never lost, he who sows courtesy, reaps friendship, and he who plants kindness gathers love.

i am genuinely surprised you guys have luck with >4g drives, seriously.
i had one 8g drive from microcenter years ago that worked for LDD drivers and movie data but would never boot into FW from it.
i bought at least a dozen different 8-16G drives over the years, used HP format, windows format, other tools, HxDen etc.. never had a bit of luck on a konica. kyocera yes but not any konicas.
i read your positive results and im like AYFKM? ive been out of the field for 22 months now so anything that has improved im just in the dark and i apologize for my incorrect out of date assertions.
We know a thing or two because we've seen a thing or two.

Probably a silly question, but should is function version 4.2 a higher function version than 7?
I'm on the C458 also, with the GCQ-Y2 firmware.Comment

On C458 machine latest function version is 4.2 not to be mistaken with latest function version for IT4 version 7.A tree is known by its fruit, a man by his deeds. A good deed is never lost, he who sows courtesy, reaps friendship, and he who plants kindness gathers love.

I've got a 64 gig flash drive to work on everything newer than the 200 CF card machines. The trick was formatting it FAT32 and disabling LVM. For whatever reason the version of UBOOT that Konica uses does not like LVM. I also set the boot flag but I'm not sure if this is required. Windows will turn it on by default for all FAT32 partitions larger than a certain size (using Explorer's format utility thing).
If that doesn't work, the other trick is to blank the partition table on the flash drive and only make a 2 gig (without LVM flag) FAT32 partition. Leave the rest of the disk blank.
Be careful of using cheap cloned flash drives. Often they will report as a larger size but actually be smaller. Run: https://github.com/AltraMayor/f3 to detect and "repair" them. (I don't try to fix them though, I just throw them away when I know they are fake.)
In case anyone is wondering about software tools, I'm using GParted to format them and use a MBR partition table.Worked in IT for 12 years from Helpdesk up to System Administrator. Now working as the IT Manager at a copier company for the last 4 years.
If I helped you out, please give me a thumbs up! It helps my reputation.Comment

As a workaround, ARZ Host’s VPS with port 25 open could be a reliable alternative to improve SMTP performance and email delivery. This setup may bypass potential domain-related issues and offer more stable email transmission.

The issue you're experiencing with Scan to Email slowing down over time is likely related to DNS resolution or firmware. Here's a short solution:- Check DNS Settings: Switching between domain name and IP suggests a DNS issue. Ensure the DNS settings on the C458 are properly configured and stable.
- Firmware Update: If DNS checks out, updating the firmware is a good next step. To update from GC1-X8 to GCQ-Y2, contact the manufacturer's support for the correct procedure and special firmware availability.
- Consider VPS for Reliable SMTP: If email issues persist, using a VPS with port 25 open can help ensure smoother email sending. You can avail this from Arzhost.com.
These steps should help resolve the slow scan-to-email issue.👍 1Comment
