Bizhub C224e panel/print freeze during non-use.....front cover open/close resets it!

Customer has a C224e, when they are not using it to print or copy for 10-30 minutes, control panel freezes up and no prints. It also froze for me WHILE ENTERING SERVICE MODE and INVOKING LIFE MONITOR PRINTOUT! I had it freezing multiple times while entering in the touch panel. Unplugging the machine made it go away for about an hour, and right back to it. After I drove away, of course!

Was told this is known to happen if any of the drums are past their life, and 3 of 4 (C,Y,K) are 4-6 YEARS PAST their rated life! Although I can't see any aluminum core on any of the 4 three do look quite worn (I think it's internal arc from charger?) but print quality if fine (which is why they've never been replaced). I'm told drums have a sleep timer independent of low power/sleep timers. Magenta was replaced a few months ago but didn't cause any problem far as I know.

Customer was using front main power to reset, but I was able to UN-freeze control panel 5 times just by opening and closing front cover for about 2 seconds.
MUCH faster and easier on the machine and patience than full power cycle!
Just wanted to post this since most lock-up solutions suggest formatting HDD, panel firmware update, etc. and no mention of checking your drum life first!
I'll post a follow up if replacing the old drums does NOT fix it!

Update: Customer can't print even when control panel is freed up by opening/closing front cover! Only main power cycle restores print and scan.......AND C2152 code after asking customer to print in black only (not sure if it caused it).

It sounds like something is going on with the "computer" side of the copier. Have you tried running the self diagnostics yet?

I have not! But I can do that next week when I'm on site. I installed a Magenta compatible drum in August, may be defective! Gotta ask customer if the issue was present before drum replaced. It could also be a corrupt print, HDD issue, loose connectors, power issues, etc.
INTERESTING NOTE: Customer says if they keep sending prints to it, scanning, etc. it never freezes. BUT it's when they stop for 15-30 minutes that it freezes and won't print without power cycling. Which makes it seem like a sleep issue but both timers in menu are set to 60.

I would start entering service mode and checking last error codes also TCRs. C2152 is fo PS39 behind TB. It's a bit hidden but you should dig this site I'm sure there were pictures somewhere where the photointerrupter is

That is really weird....voltage drop when the fuser heats back up after waiting maybe? That's a stretch though...

You can sort of.. you just give the person a 👍reaction now since the vBulletin update.

UPDATE: Replacing drums did not fix a thing, except end of life indicators. A spare belt unit is ordered (error code gone for now) for a line that shows up (all colors) on heavy density prints. I also set their sleep timer for 5 minutes and it woke up a few times while I was there for prints.
Per previous posts I took back cover off, checked/reseated all connectors and ground screws, then recalled I hadn't checked the wall end of the network cable, and it was behind some cabinets. Pulled out the cabinet and the cable was BENT AT A 90 DEGREE ANGLE RIGHT AT THE PLUG!! I've replaced the cable and am waiting on the customer for a call-back if it still isn't fixed. But since it's Christmas month, I may not hear about it until next year sometime. If I don't post another follow-up, case closed!

Turn sleep off. Service mode, "permit" for sleep mode settings, then go into admin mode and turn off sleep. We do this with all 4 & 8 series. There was bulletin addressing this issue and fix was to turn off sleep. This might not help with your issue but sleep should be off anyway.
