Anyone rebuilding drum units CYMK for the BH-C-280/360 series?

I'm rebuilding those drum units since long, but in the meantime the grid seals front/rear and also the long soft seal which touches the drum (I believe both are to guide the ozone out of the machine) are disintegrating. I have from "Chinesia" good drums, cleaning blades and also the grids, but no source for those seals. What are you doing, just leaving them out, or did one of you find a source for the seals?

Hans, I've also had those seals disintegrate on the 4 series drums. Some seals on the new style 4 series with the chip riveted seem to be a softer material and not become brittle.

Can't help with your question and C220 series drum rebuilds because I only sold around 20 years back have since replaced most with 4 & 8 series. Have only rebuilt a few C220 drums but hundreds of the 4 series (basically the same drum unit)

Can tell you that the aftermarket grids I buy have both the foam seals on each end and some have no seals. Katun has the seals on grids, copylite no seals. Both work fine.

I thought the long seal on corona unit was to prevent toner from getting on saw tooth charger? These are the ones that get brittle and break. Can't say how they would work without as I've always had other 4 series drums to steal good corona units from. Surprised none of the China suppliers don't have that or some type of seal to replace with.

I would like to know if you find a solution.

    Take care.

I'm going to let them out when they become brittle. For the grid seals, I cut the drum seal from the old Di-183 and BH-350 series. According to my stock inventory, I still have 50 pcs of them. Though, the long seal seems to have the relatively more important function here.

Still believe the long seal has more to do with the ozone removal than to keep toner away from the saw tooth. Because for the long seal I cannot imagine any other function than to form a “chamber” together with the both end seals collecting the ozone to guide away.

I have around 12 rentals from the BH-C-280/360 series remaining in the field and they are making good money, but will replace them when it starts to hurt.

Just to confirm that I've used the grids without any seals and they work fine. No issues or premature failure at all.

As for the Biz C220 series rentals I would keep them running as long as you can! They will last forever! Besides they are to damn heavy to move!

On Toshibas with needle electrodes it is common practice to remove the long corona unit seal when they get brittle ... preferable BEFORE the pieces get sucked into the developing roller, catch under the doctor blade, and make feed direction voids in the images. Once those bits of rubber get into the developing unit, they are very difficult to dislodge all at once. Just normal agitation will bring them up to the doctor blade randomly at 5 to 10 day intervals. A little patience with the mylar doctor blade clearing tool will get them out (only if they're at the doctor blade though).

            Mylar Doctor Blade Cleaner.JPG

If my enduser demonstrates patience with my efforts to fish out the pieces, I'll get most of the pieces in 4 visits. If they're not demonstrating patience I'm forced to order the developing unit. At the first sign of brittleness off go the seals. There does not seem to be long term issues with removing that seal. =^..^=

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
            1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
            2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
            3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
            4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
            5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

LOL! I don't want to say how may times I have had to dump the vacuum filter to retrieve a small item coated in 5# of toner. =^..^=

Vacuum cleaner, what's that? Lol haven't had to use mine for months! Seems like yesterday I carried into every call. Now maybe few times a year. Add that to my meter, roll of corona wire, etc etc. Hardly used anymore and don't know why I still carry them in my Platt hard case!(hard case showing my age)

I do use the large 5 gal Atrix vac in shop a lot, mostly for waste toner and when rebuilding drums & trans belts, etc.

Just the word Toshiba makes me cringe. Not as bad as Panasonic or Sanyo but close. My experience was 40 yrs ago with them. Although the 3301 was a decent small machine back in the day. When small desktop copiers were only copiers and cost $3,000+

And yes add me to the list of having to dump the vac filter to get a part that accidentally got sucked in. There are some things I don't even bother retrieving like the thin foam seals that get sucked in from the top of biz 223 developer unit.

When we still had C360 series machines in the field I tried rebuilding drum units but, it ended up practically costing the same as buying K drums and rechipping them for the colours. We were KonMin dealers though.

The cost now to rebuild drums is under $50 for new aftermarket drum, blade, sawtooth, grid & chip. Much less than new OEM especially the color drums!

I have not worried in that series, but in development units of the c6500, I have placed plumbing teflon to replace it
