You can check the parts catalogs between the different finishers. It may just be a difference in the part number of EEPROM in which case you might be able load the older firmware assuming the main machine will allow it. If not you will need to order the EEPROM. I have done that a few times on Ricoh finishers.

I would suggest to not let it do firmware with the finisher attached. It could work like the FS534 working instead of the FS536 on the 8 series but
will not work after a firmware update due to the difference in the elevator motor type.

I know to make some finishers backwards compatible you have to grab firmware from a supported model to get it to work. That might be the case here. You would definitely need a compatible relay unit but there is nothing physically stopping compatibility just software and firmware.
