Trying to upgrade from Q8 to GC2-Q9 locks the display and doesn't work.

I work over at Konica and we had a bunch of 450is ship with G00-Q8. I have flash drives that work on 7 series, 4 series and 4 series but they won't work on these I series machines with Q8. I don't think it is the flash drive because when nothing is loaded on the flash driver or there is no flash driver inserted it just skips the set up. When I load firmware on a stick and place it in the machine and run the normal firmware reset procedure (stop button on the back while powering up the machine) all the machine does it get the black dot and stick at 1/4 on the progress bar.
I am about to just let the RSP technicians upgrade the machine's firmware but I wanted to know if anyone has got a Q8 machine to upgrade via usb.
Yes the machine's admin settings is toggled on to allow firmware from a USB
Yes I have ran the HPUSBDISK utility.

Couple of questions. Is it a machine with a memory board or without? Easy way to check is by serial number, other way to check is to remove the rear cover, and check. Is it a black and white machine? Try flashing base firmware first as well, G00-Q9. There is also G00-RB available now too.

I have found that the usb 3.0 sticks from Micro center work when no other sticks will, here is where I get mine https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09G2Q8NYP...t_details&th=1

It is also recommended that the boot rom be updated before trying to upgrade firmware. I tried attaching the boot rom instructions but unsuccessful . I have attached them in the past so you can search the forms and find them or I can email them to you .
The new firmware G00-RB is function version 2.3 (SW25 HEX 40) which will require updating movie , voice data and LDD if you have a card reader

I have done numerous machines from P8 to Q9, GC2-Q9 and even RB. I don't believe it's firmware related. May be something to do with wrong firmware folder. The only times when I cannot update them from 1sr try machine will wait and eventually reboot itself at the same time same model machine next to troubled one would happily take firmware from the same flash drive. I put multiple firmware folders on the same usb stick and don't bother with model usually.

I used Transcend Jet flash and still use them occasionally but switched to another don't remember brand but it's short about an inch like and doesn't stuck from copier USB port making me nervous that wandering users can broke it will firmware update is in progress.

We run into this issue from time to time.

A few weeks ago at a large college I was running round updating a load of iseries & the odd one or two wouldn't update using the same firmware / stick that worked on the others.

I left them to last then went back & they would accept the update! no real reason. Just keep trying it should eventually update.
