I'm going to try this again, hopefully it works properly. This time.

Does anyone know if the Bizhub 501 can use the ID and Print function like the C253 etc. The machine has a hard drive, just don't know if it needs anything else.

Yes the Bizhub 501 supports User Authentication and Account track, as well as Secure print (Password Print), and Box Functions.

yes, but "ID and Print" is the new terminology for when you walk up to the machine (like C552\C652) with a fingerprint/card reader and then all of your print jobs print.

I have since learned that you need to be at firmware v20 plus have a version 2 print driver. I have been waiting since wedensday for the driver to made avaliable on the website, they just haven't gotten around to it yet.

No ID & Print option in the Output Method of the properties Basic tab.

Under the configure tab did you tell it that Authentication is on? My Version 1 driver has everything there. I have attached screen shots of my driver.

If you have a look at a C253 (or like) driver you will see ID & Print under the output method, along with secure print, etc. You will only be able to select it with User Authentication on.
When you send a job using ID & Print there are two other buttons on the logon screen of the MFD, Begin Printing and Logon and Print (as well as logon). You enter your user name and password and hit one of the two new buttons and then your print job will print out. In the picture I my driver doesn't have user authentication on so it has a red cross.

Ok I'm a little confused, the C203 Color machine and driver are not the same as the 501 BW machine and driver nor is the machine operation.

I was just using the c203 driver as an example because they look the same the function the customer wants to use will work exactly the same way. Anyway I got the driver today so I will get their IT dept to install it and we will see how it goes. The idea behind this is that the academics who print their jobs and don't come to collect them will not waste paper anymore because the jobs will be deleted after 24 hours if they don't log onto the machine.
