    Kyocera 250ci Black Vertical Patches

    Hi all,

I'm new here, and more used to old HP laser printers, so hopefully you can advise!

A local charity has a 250ci which was working fine (total count is about 60k), but is now printing with 3 black vertical bands down the page - randomly spaced. They're not solid black, so you can still see the print perfectly well, but it results in a grey background in these areas. There's also a splattering of tiny magenta dots in places, which is less of an issue, and presumably it needs a new drum unit. With regards to the black issue, an engineer came out, took out the drum and developer units, and cleaned what was described as a 'mirror'. This did resolve the issue, and we printed several pages without issue. Unfortunately then, in us trying to diagnose the magenta issue and doing a drum refresh and developer refresh, the black problem has returned.

I've removed the black drum and developer units again, and got rid of a bit of a dusting of black toner around the plastics, but I can't see exactly which bit of glass or mirror I'm supposed to be cleaning. Can anyone advise? I've generally cleaned the area with a cloth, but the issue remains. I'm guessing a cotton bud in the right location is going to be the answer.

Also, the engineer didn't have access to any firmware updates for the copier - I doubt it's been updated for a long time, and I'd like to do so if possible. A google search didn't turn up an obvious source - are they readily available?

    All help gladly received!
