Driver Issues in General - ALL Machines

Had a call that a NEW Kyocera TASKalfa 8373ci was jamming all the time and the customer wanted another machine. Tech went out and made about 50 copies on the machine and they printed OK. Tried to send a print job to the machine and it jammed. removed the jam and tried to print again and looked at the Orientation and it was set to Landscape. He tried to change it to Portrait and it would not let him. The looked at the driver and saw that is was using the Microsoft IPP Class Driver. He changed it to the KX driver and it now prints and no jams.

Went to a call this morning on a HP LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw that was printing a greenish shading on the color prints. Looked the printer over and saw nothing wrong and did a copy test print and it looked OK. Then went and looked at the driver and saw it was using the MS IPP Class Driver. Changed it back to the HP driver and now it prints OK again.

SO if you are having printing issues with your printer look at the driver first. Microsoft updates are changing the drivers.

Upgrading to Win11, the pc automatically looks for printers and sets them up with the point and print driver (IPP), then makes it the default. What's up with that??

When you set it up with the Manufactures drivers and then sometimes (not always) MS updates it will change the drivers to IPP. Beware. So if you are having PRINTING issues, check the drivers first.

Someone said it is a Kyocera issue. No it is Not. HP, Kyocera, and others having the same problem.

We disable WSD print & scan & IPV6 on all machines going forward. It helps eliminate most of these issues. Also, uncheck let Windows manage my default printer.
        Hope that helps !

Yes already have them disabled. Did not even turn on IPV6.

I just tried letting windows find my 3253 in the office. Any mention of WSD is turned off on the copier and yup. It found the dam thing. The WSD port had a big long string behind it, wonder if thats IPV6.
Wish Microsoft would just make a basic driver that worked if they are going to try and push this crap.

*Edit* Just turned off IPV6, still found it and it still printed

Anytime I have contacted Kyocera Tech support they ask me if WSD printing is turned OFF and if IPV6 is OFF. If not then turn them OFF.

I just played around with a 3553ci in our office. Disabling both IPP protocols stops the printer device from being found in windows. Disabling both eSCL protocols stops the scanner from being found by windows. You'll just have to be conscious if you diable these protocols, what it may affect. I know NW fax uses the WSD protocol.
                Hope that helps !

Does disabling IPP cause any other issues?

We turn off ipp by default. Only time it’s needed is if the client wants to print from mobile devices, ie AirPrint. That’s the only time we enable it. Saves a lot of Helpdesk calls for the stupid Microsoft IPP driver that for some reason always seems to set a weird paper type so the machine is always requesting they put paper on the MP tray.

I'm still playing around with it. We use wifi-direct for customers that come into our office, and one of those protocols seems to have messed it up.
                      Will resume next week.
