    2553ci Black Dev

Good morning! I have a 2553ci that has been burning through Black developer units. In the last 8-9 months I've gone through 4 developer units, 2 HV units (tried a used one first), a base board, a toner hopper assembly and an HV contact assembly, three calls to Tech Support, two turtle doves and a partridge in a pear tree. Every time I run any maintenance mode it runs fine, the numbers are within specs. After replacing a dev unit it works great for anywhere from 1 to 3 months then it just stops adding toner and I get a call for "light prints", see attachment.

I would try a drum and dv unit. Looks like drum is arching and sucking out your DV unit.

We have this issue on some of the Konica 4e series machines with their Cyan Developers. When we replace the Dev unit due to depletion the reccomendation is to replace the Drum unit at the same time or you end up eating brand new devs over and over.

We usually find that the waste toner fills up way faster as the developer gets stripped and emptied by the drum unit which dumps it straight into the waste toner collection.
I have not encountered this on my Kyocera devices as of yet, but that output you have shown looks identical to the failure mode of our konica devs when the drum unit eats it up.

I would also check connection YC2 to the DK/DV Relay PWB as it could be that the T/C Sensor for the K dev is not making connection/board has failed. You mentioned replacing the HV board, maybe try swapping the Relay PWB. This also chains back through the Feed Image PWB and then fianlly to the Engine PWB so could be a failure along that path.

Have had a few of these. Never found out the real cause.
I just replaced the dev units and the problem never came back.
The Kyocera rep I deal with didn't have any real idea what caused the problem.
I did vac out the toner delivery system on one machine in case there was a blockage.
Tried toning them up but that didn't work.
Can only assume the TD sensors in the dev units were faulty and misreading.

Saw that pattern on Sharps. We called it Tiger Stripping. The drum would be pulling DV. The DV unit would become depleted and the brush would not be solid on the mag roller. 2553 is dual component machine with OPC drums so it has a developer brush that is in contact with the drum.

Any signs of DV around the drum or under the charge roller? On Sharp it would stick to the drum, hit the transfer belt and then go into the waste. It was a very clean failure. Either case you have a bad drum or a charge imbalance between the DV unit and the Drum unit allowing the carrier to stick to the drum.
Evil will always triumph because good is dumb.

Did you try to replace drum unit charge roller?
