Ok well I am not 100% but I am seeing alot of things from when this process started in like 2019/2022 saying that app passwords will be under the Basic auth umbrella. I tried to look at the High Volume email and this is a little worrying image.png
I think that is essentially saying that its still Basic Auth which is literally what microsoft is getting rid of.
and then the other option "Azure Communication Services for Email" Is an absolute nightmare.

I figured app passwords were on the way out along with Simple Auth but maybe not. I wouldn't mind having a non expiring password through o365 the same way gmail does it.

Actually not. The customer where I thought I needed it went with gmail instead. I don’t see why the app password method wouldn’t work unless Microsoft blocks it.

I appreciate the detailed information. Have you been able to test this to see if it works? Also, do you think this will be the solution going forward for machines that don't support OAuth? The only Kyocera machines I've seen with any mention of OAuth are the 4 series copiers with the right firmware. Most of the other machines we support might have to rely on this app password method (if it works).

Today, we are announcing that Exchange Online will permanently remove support for Basic authentication with Client Submission (SMTP AUTH) in September 2025.

I looked around at this but haven't had a chance to play with it yet. It looks like you can configure a High Volume Email account to work.

    started a topic SMTP Configuration

    SMTP Configuration

I'm curious what setups everybody uses to get SMTP up and running. Currently I end up using O365 on the machines we have IT control of, Gmail on smaller clients that dont have a corporate IT and then when there is another IT company I typically find them using either a relay or another email account.
With Microsoft getting rid of simple authentication in september, is there any plans to move through that? Have you actually set up OAuth and figured out how that works? Do you just plan to use a relay and continue as normal? Switch to another service?
I'd Like to try to use OAuth if I could but if there is any documentation on how it works with Kyocera I haven't seen it. I'd rather not set up relays but if I have to then so be it.
Working...
