Kyocera ECOSYS m5526cnd TWAIN driver connection problem

    Hi,

We are using a program that communicates the scanner over TWAIN over the network to scan and store documents. Our previous multifunctional was capable of doing so, but had to be replaced. I took our new printer Kyocera ECOSYS m5526cdn out of the box and made sure everything printing worked. I only enabled the required protocols, using the web management, basically this is just the RAW, SMTP, SMB, SNMP v1/2, VNC and HTTP/HTTPS. All other protocols are disabled. Printing works fine.

But I spent the entire weekend to try get TWAIN (network) to work. The official website has 3 drivers for TWAIN available for download
    - TWAIN Driver (3.0) Scan from TWAIN-supported applications
    - Scanner driver (TWAIN/ WIA) (2.0.6421/ 2.2.0426)
    - TWAIN scanner driver (TWAINScannerDriver_v2.0.8106.zip)

All 3 drivers will perfectly install, the newest one will automatically configure the "TWAIN Driver Setting App" for you, the older 2 have a manual step of configuring this after the installation.
In the "TWAIN Driver Setting" Tool, all I do is add the printer with it's type and IP address.

After this I can see my Kyocera appear in the scanner list of my application. So far so good.
But when starting acquiring it waits for 5 seconds and then this message pops up:
    3.png
Freely translated: "Connection problem. Check the connection of your device, the status of the MFP-panel and the user verification login."

I tried inserting a user login Admin - Admin (default password), also 2600 - 2600, also manually added users and administrators, with SSL without SSL... it never works.

I doubted that perhaps the 3rd party app was failing TWAIN, so I installed TWACK_32 and TWACK_64 which are some official TWAIN testing programs: they give the same error.
In the detailed error logs of that app I can find:

    - Source Manager was Opened succesfully
    - DG_CONTROL/DAT_IDENTIY/MSG_OPENDS_TWRC_SUCCESS (proving some received TWAIN info)

    - (then I get the same connection problem box, I guess the driver pops this up)
    - Operation: DG_CONROL/DAT_USERIERFACE/MSG_ENABLEDS Return Code: TWRV_FAILURE Condition Code: TWCC_OPERATIONERROR

I wanted to do a firmware upgrade because perhaps it was a firmware issue. However when I want to do this using the firmware update tool, it can connect to the device to read out some firmware data, but when going Next I insert my username and password and I get an authentication failed error. Again, no matter what username or password I type in, it will never work.

Finally I also tried the program "Kyocera Net Viewer". This app can also connect to my printing (I assume using SNMP) but when I want to click any more advanced function it will also ask a user and then will always show the message "verification error".

The firmware and the net viewer are not so important, it's mainly the TWAIN that bothers me so much because it renders the printer useless. But perhaps these other errors are related.
I tried a "reset" to factory settings, opening up all the protocols... no advance. I tried disabling windows Firewall, nope. Switching off antivirus, no result.

I also got a firmware file from the internet that could be used for USB flashing, but reading the readme.txt of that firmware it does not mention anything about bugfixes in authentication or TWAIN, and my firmware is quite current since the device is new. I prefer not to brick it since people are already using it to print and success rate to fix that TWAIN issue is low I assume.

It's weird that in the protocol settings on the web interface there is no option to enable TWAIN protocol, I'm not an expert.

Pretty much out of options here.
Working...
