    M3560idn 7900 error

Is this likely caused by the drum unit (which has gone almost the full life cycle) versus being a board issue? We only have a couple of these in the field so not much history/experience to go by. Don't want to get into replacing boards needlessly...Thanks

Per the manual 7900 indicates a drum EEPROM error, check wiring and replace drum if the wiring is good.

Open the toner waste door , pull out the drum a little and then push it in firmly. Most of the time, this is what caused this error.
i.e the drum was not pushed in all the way and not making proper electrical contact.

The M3560 doesnt have a side door for the drum!

Correct. My bad. I kept thinking of those fs 3540, which when would throw that code . Usually I would look up the manual to see the model , but I went straight to the fix , which from memory . Hardly work on those now as they are old.

So, my memory jog for those models which has the drum unit that is installed from the front top cover are the drum augur get caked with toner and would not turn the drum. It would cause the gear post that drives the drum on the right had side to break and make noise and paper jam . The waste toner box would not collect toner as it would get hard as rock. Also the toner contacts that on the drum unit gets bent and would give non genuine toner error.

For the 7900 code, I would just swap the drum unit first and then take it from there.

              Thanks for the feedback.
