    [CQ] KM-8030 Lines on copies

I have a KM 8030 that is producing a line though image areas only,i have traced the line to the drum and given the price of a replacement drum i was wondering if you could polish the surface with anything.
It used to work on the old cds drums years ago but i have never tried on a selinium drum.

As far as I know, these drums cannot be polished or buffed out. I have removed glue from a TA300 drum once (from labels) with my handkerchief with not problems, but it is nothing that would do anything for lines. Looks like you'll have to replace the drum.

You could always try buffing the drum with toner. Just put a little toner on a cotton pad (do Webril pads still exist?) and try buffing the line out. It won't hurt to try, it's just toner....
But I'm trying, Ringo. I'm trying real hard... to be the Shepherd.

This is one of the hardest drum surfaces on the market. The toner does some minor buffing, but it's mostly just to remove foreign matter, not drum material.

I suppose that you don't have very much to lose, since you'll probably have to replace it anyway. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
          1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
          2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
          3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
          4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
          5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

What's the total count on the unit? These drums are rated to 4.8 million copies but after half a million they start to look like crap. You'll visibly see discoloration on the drum, but image quality isn't effected. I would try a different cleaning unit. When you replace a kit, you have to move the position of the drum separation claws.

The drum is Amorphous silicon, not much you can do, Kyocera might do a warranty on it, I would try that before anything. as previously stated when you replace the drum ensure the drum claw mount is one that has three positions, meaning you loosen a screw and can shift the claws over slightly so they don't ride on the same spot on the drum. There are three positions, at each service call the claws should be shifted into a new position.

Are you sure it is drum and not just a piece of paper hiding on the cleaning unit?
