Simple solution. I was just being extra careful, since I've never really worked on this model.

With the developing unit opened up, the first thing that I noticed was that there wasn't nearly enough toner in there. I could see the bottom of the housing at the left side. I cleaned the piezo sensor and vacuumed out that area. When it still would not add toner, I left it powered up with the doors open and the piezo hanging out. The piezo sensor was completely silent.

Changing out the piezo did the trick. It didn't make much difference at first. While I was metering out the toner motor, it miraculously started rotating! As small as those toner cartridges are, it could consume a couple cartridges before the dev unit was topped up. =^..^=

I was out looking at this machine last week. It was making light prints and copies, and at a 160.25mm interval there was a negative re-image. That's a roller diameter of 51mm, which points directly at the foamy developing roller. When I rolled it over, the backside was mostly blank. I wiped down the entire surface of the roller with alcohol and cleared it up ... for 5 days. The machine has only 26K ft2. It's OEM toner. I'm going to recheck the developing unit contacts and bias. I've re-greased the drum ground, but the interval isn't right.

Has anybody seen these symptoms? =^..^=
