    KIP 3100 large voids

    Hello guys, I have a customer with a KIP 3100 that is getting large void areas on the second have of 30"x42" prints. I have recently rebuilt the developing unit and the problem is still there. Does anyone have any tips? I am waiting on access to the "keep it printing" forum where it appears that KIP has a bulletin regarding this very problem. Anybody happen to have info on Kip Tech K105-009 by chance?

      I've come across huge void areas exactly like that on a 7170K, towards the trailing edge of the print. If you remove a side cover, you should be able to watch the paper through a hole in the frame. You'll see a buckle/ wrinkle start to form in the paper where the paper pulls away from the drum, getting worse the longer the paper runs. That's where you get the voids: paper not laying flat against the drum or pulling away from the drum. I know of three potential causes:

      1) drum bearings not seated properly.
      2) fuser misaligned with the paper path.
      3) fuser speed set incorrectly. Fuser speed is adjustable in at least three different ways. There is a bulletin on the 7170K ... not sure about the 3100.

      The developing issue doesn't look like that. It usually presents as heavy background in a repeating pattern, or diagonal void patterns seen in areas of heavy fill (not "rorschach" random shapes).

      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

          Thanks Black Cat, It appeared like buckling paper to me as well. I was able to find the TIP105-009 as well. I forgot that Konica handled KIP before they went to Kyocera.

              Just to follow up on this. I went through the fuser speed settings and for some reason a tech at the machines prior home had all the speeds cranked way up. I set them all back to KIP defaults and the image is perfect now.
