OKI c7200 Sensor Error + Loud "Chattering" Noise

I have an OKI c7200 that was working fine until this week when all of a sudden it stopped printing and started making a very loud "chattering" or grinding noise and put up a "CYAN TONER SENSOR ERROR" message. The unit has less than 10K pages total, and the type C2 Cyan cartridge had 83% toner remaining at last check before the stoppage.

I tried gently cleaning the sensor with a soft lens brush but no change, and examination of the sensor shows no apparent damage.

Anyone experience this before? Is that loud noise really because of a failed toner sensor?? (that's what is keeping me from just searching for a toner sensor; the symptom and the error message do not seem consistent with one another).

    Any insights? Thank you!

Check the alignment pins on the ends of the cyan drum unit. If one or more of these pins are broken you'll lose drive, and not agitate, not add toner, and the drum cartridge will bounce rattle and roll. Replace the drum cartridge.
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Thanks for your reply! I checked the cyan toner and drum, compared them to the magenta & yellow units for reference, and did not see any pins, tabs or "fingers" that appeared to be broken or missing from the cyan unit. Everything looked the same between the 3 units, except for the pins that appear to be keyed differently for each color.

I did notice one difference, however: The white gear on the cyan drum unit at the end of the toner cartridge slot, that interfaces with the gear on the toner cartridge, is very tight and will not budge at all when prodded with my finger. The magenta & yellow units will move just slightly, like only one-half to maybe one or so gear teeth only. Not very much, but a little. The cyan gear was so tight it would not budge at all.

Sound like I need a new cyan drum unit? After only less than 9K pages, that stinks, but I'll try it if that seems like the problem.

Thanks for your help, and any other insights or comments that come to mind will be appreciated!

        Sorry

sorry I did'nt see this post earlier.

I've run into a couple of oki 7300 with a similair problem and i belive the model is close enough to check for this.

On the tranffer belt kit there are are several small armatures that run along the edge of the belt, one of these maybe broken.

Also the transffer belt retaining clip near the rear right hand side just before the fuser can be damaged an cause the belt to jump (often unseating the cyan drum/toner slightly)

it is common on these to sieze a drum unit... power up with switch cheated and remove drums one at a time for isolating unit works like a champ
