panasonic 4100 not recieving fax

need help on this. im not an panasonic specialist.

it is a small fax machine. i am able to send faxes without any problems but am not receiving faxes. dialled the fax number on my fone and is making all the right noises. machine says rcv but then just drops after abit.

Try hooking it up to a different phone line. Usually its the line that drops faxes.

if its able to send then wouldnt u think that theres nothing wrong with the line?

I've had the problem where they can receive but not send and vise versa. Every time this has happened to me it was either:
1. The phone cord itself.
2. Customer plugged the line into Ext.
3. The phone jack itself was bad and it tested good on another jack.

I'm assuming you tried 1 and 2 just because as a technician those are usually the first 2 ruled out. From there if those 2 aren't ruled out its either the fax board (I've never seen one go bad) or the phone line (notorious for going bad). Just do yourself a favor before you go replacing boards and check the phone jacks. Test it on a few different jacks with a new phone cord. If those don't work then its the fax board itself.

Also you might Print out a Fax Parameter list and pay attention to any parameter with an asterisk in the left column (meaning that parameter isn't set to default). If some weird sub address or password requirement has been inadvertently set it could be waiting on a code that will never come and time out. Print a journal also and reference any error codes associated with RCV transmissions.
