Need help from Ricoh color Techs.

    Hi Guys
I usually work on Kyocera's i'm a little familiar with Ricohs but this one is kicking my butt. I have a savin c2525 thats giving me a weird problem. the machine itself only has 60k black and 19k color pages I't has this problem whether you print or copy the problem is pages come out with a light area intermittently I have attached samples. one page will come out fine then the next will have a light band from lead to trail then the next one will be fine again or maybe light band on it hard to say when its going to happen. I have replaced transfer belt, transfer roller, black drum and developer. It seems to do it only with black and white unit I did a color separation and all the colors are ok on full color you can notice the black fades out sometimes.Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks in advance.Attachment 30217Attachment 30216

Love the hard ones, let's see what I can think of. If you'very isolated the issue to only black and it is on prints as well as copies then we can rule out ITB, image transfer roller, and fusing unit. If these parts were causing the issue, it would show up on colour as well as black. You've already tried a new black drum and dev (that would have been my first guess) but didn't work; issue remained. Did you just replace the developer powder in the black dev unit or replace the whole unit? Clean machine? Any toner or toner blow behind the drum? Would like to really rule out the dev as being the cause.

The only other part isolated to producing black is the laser glass and laser unit. Highly unlikely but I guess worth mentioning would be the power pack that powers the black drum.

An sp mode fix might be to do a force toner black, and initialize the black td sensor. But first rule out any possibility of a part failure.

Is this the first copy/print in the morning coming out of the machine ?
I'm leaning toward moist paper firstly...

I'm seeing slight dev voids and/or charge roller lines in the sample image.
Are you still using the old drum and dev unit ?

I would remove the laser unit and remove the laser shield plate that mounts on top of the laser and slides open and shut. I've seen many weird print issues related to the shield plate POS.................. The machine will function just fine without it!!!!!!!!

A big 10-4 on that. do you remember if you need to turn off SP 2914-007 Dust shield shutter motor "Presence" after removing the shield? the manual states that its not used but I think it has to be changed or the machine will give a code

On the shutter, I have always been told to remove shutter plate only. Leave everything else.

If you are still have the same problem, replace the black PCU and Developer. The machine is anywhere from 4 to 8 years old and to only have 60K on the black shows very light use. Even though the manual says that the PCU should go 80K and the developer should go 160K, they can still be just too old to give proper print results. The target usage for this machine was 5 to 20K per months.

When I enlarged the sample pictures you provided, for all the world the pattern of white dots on them looked almost exactly like the pattern of white dots produced on prints from a 1022 with a worn out PCU. And that pattern showed up even in the good sample picture. So I have to agree with the people that called for the K PCU to be replaced.

I'd bet on a dirty laser shielt / faulty shutter, too

Laser issues would be more consistent. OP said it was intermittent. I would focus on the black PCU, specifically the developer section. Might be a clog in the doctor blade, or broken drive gear.

The laser shutter can be such a stupidly intermittent cause of this fault. They can run fine for hundreds of prints, then BAM.

Solution to the intermittent light print. I took the laser shutter off and cleaned the laser area really good that seemed to do the trick pages look nice and solid all the way across.
Thank you for your help and input on this guys.
