[Electrical] Op panel keys dead - touchscreen works. Reason happening?

Anyone else having Op Panel issues on the MP 6002 or MP 7502 series? The touch screen still works, but the hard keys (both sides) do not. i suspect static discharge from the customer, as we had 10 intermediate boards (D131-1461)fail last winter & none over the summer!? A couple machines had multiple boards go out.

Of course Ricoh tells me 'no one has this problem' - but i thought i would check with my cohorts here, and get some honest answers!! The interesting thing is this customer had the previous model (MP 6001) and never shocked an op panel, therefore i suspect something with the USB cables (since these are new on the 6002)

i have tried grounding the machine in various spots (frame to carpet, op panel to frame, etc). Does have a surge protector & checked power. Thanks!!

Static during the winter can be a problem as the air in a heated building is usually rather low humidity. My guess is that the MFP are not the only low humidity/static problems they are having. The best thing for the customer to do is install a humidifier on the heating system. It will also help with "winter dry skin" problems for their employees. Another option is to install grounded discharge touch plates on the machines. There should be some commercially available or you can make your own. If you make your own, you will need to put a resistor in the ground path to prevent rapid discharge causing workers to complain about static shock and blame the machine.
