Ricoh - Apple Mac printing problem

Printing is ok with an old Brother color printer in a Mac environement OR when the Ricoh mpc2800 is put on a Windows platform in that network.
When we power up the Ricoh machine, the first minutes printing is ok in that Mac platform, because the postscript card is installed.
But after a few minutes a Mac pc (1 of the 4) says: "printer is not connected", and it is not able to print anymore.
So, we need to repower the Ricoh OR re-install it on the MAc, in order to make it print again (for a few minutes).

    - Energy saver is set more than 10 minutes.
    - When it is of the network, i can ping the DNS server and gateway from the machine.
    - It is the same problem with a mpc2051.
    - The postscript cards are not licensed to these machines, they belong originaly to other machines (but also mpc2800 of mpc2051)
    - With a older version of Apple (on a notebook) the problem is the same.
    - firmware update done for the postscript.
    - We already swaped postscript cards with no problem, but could it be that is causing the problem?

    Thank you for helping us!

    Greetings,
    Mark

if my memory serves correctly, you cannot swap out post script cards, there is data that is transferred to original install that does not move with it. i could be wrong on that, tho.

This sounds more like a network switch problem if cycling power on the MP C2800 clears the problem for a brief time. I had a similar problem with an MP C2550 about a year ago. Cycle power on the MP C2550 and everything queued to it would print. Try to print 5 minutes later and the computers would act like the printer was not there. Cycle power and again everything in queue would print. We trued replacing everything in the machine that had to do with the network to no avail. Customer finally swapped that machine with another printer and the problem stay with the location not the machine. They replaced a three year old 32 port switch and the problem went away.

I do not think this is the problem. If it were the case there would be an error message on the MP C2800 at power up and the card would not work at all.

Try changing the port you install the printers on to 'HP - Jetdirect' rather than bonjour if that's what you are using.
