The is setting in Gmail account setup for allowing low security apps. Switch it on and try again.

That ("01") series of machines DO NOT support SSL (GMail, Yahoo, etc) email scanning. The "02" series were the first to fully support it.

I have posted the link to Google's instructions for using scanning devices that do not support SSL. Do some searching and find it.

I thought I was going insane, because I was adamant that a 3001 will do SSL. So I stormed over and had a look at our C4501, and yep, SSL Encryption is right there in the file transfer menu. Have you turned on 'allow less secure apps' on the gmail account?

I checked the global knowledgebase on SMTP over SSL and it was the 01s that introduced SMTP over SSL for color. It was the 02s for B/W. You do however have to install a site certificate. Knowledge base article attached. How do I setup SMTP over SSL on a Ricoh Family group device.pdf
