image transfer belt tearing or seperating on end

    hi,
i have run across a few image trans belts where the tear on the rear non operator side, right near the small outside band.
it still works and is outside the copy are but i was wondering if there was anything to check and would it last a bit if i cleaned
the surface and used clear packing tape just to secure it from underneath. the belt seems to ride ok but i dont want to eat a belt/s at this time.
    thnx

I've done that once on an older machine a a temporary fix so that I could get a new belt to that location, and that belt had a defect that was affecting image quality.
I wouldn't recommend that for a long term solution. Too big of a chance for tape adhesive to get on the drums, and no good will come of that.
Also, there's a chance the belt got stretched where the tear is and will start tracking toward that side.
