I don't like people that sell "copyrighted" firmware, manuals. It is actually a serious crime. It only takes one OEM to make an example out of someone selling their "copyrighted" material. Press for heavy fines or jail. Just to make an example so no one else does it. Hope you are making enough $$ on the firmware to cover legal cost!

      Good luck

He was a contributor, an advertiser and operated a legal business online business selling manuals for all types of equipment.

True. I knew Paul. God rest his soul. Yeah I forgot about him selling manuals, probably because I never paid for manuals with Paul. Many years ago (back in the minolta EP days) I "gave" Paul a ton of manuals. He never forgot it and wouldn't take my money even though I offered for the next 15 yrs. Think he even started way before that. No PDF manuals he had to get hard copies and scan page by page.

Did I like Paul selling manuals, no, but believe that was his means of income. So if he wanted to take a chance with copyrighted material then so be it.

I think Paul's service was fair in the beginning and for several years but fizzled out with the internet.
Think he was an admin here or something which is why he was able to promote his business here? I know he was run off a few other forums 1st time he tried to sell a manual.

Re. Pauls Manuals and firmware for sale.
It all depends on the way you view things.
Paul an I had a conversation some time back; Paul asked "do think I should be charging for manuals an firmware?"

I said "you probably should not be charging for copyright manuals and firmware , but you sure as heck should be charging for your overhead online server costs and personal time and handling. If those costs amount to an average of $12.50 per manual then offer to deliver the manual free and charge $12.50 postage and handling cost".

                Example:
If I have free XYZ firmware sent to me on a USB stick, say $15(New USB stick)+ $15(delivery+GST) all up $30, should I charge the customer $30? Does that mean I'm charging for free firmware ?

If I install firmware on a time & materials job, I'm sure going to be charging for my time and travel cost, plus the cost of getting XYZ firmware securely snail mail to my workshop.
