mpc3501 after firmware failure will not boot up

    hi
i spent yesterday on a mpc 3501 with low count and did the the first two solo updates, engine and system and
tried to do network and adf together.
the machine went thru its usual motoins and after 15 mins i went back to check it and it failed loading.
i rebooted power and i got an error code 40 or 140,i think.
i tried again and then decided to try without the FW card and installed the original sd card back.
the machine then would look like it wants to come to ready but nothing but please wait..
i then removed the HDD and tried again, nothing.
i then pulled the fuse and disconnected the adf, same problem"please wait.
is there any way to force firmware?
does this look like a BICU problem?
and if so do i need a mpc3501 BICU or can MPC3001 bicu work too?
any help appreciated as this machine WAS suppose to be loaded and delivered by me today...
    thanks

I would try re-flashing the firmware with the adf and network fw on a different sd card with freshly downloaded fw in case the ones you have are corrupted. Good luck.

most likely your getting a E xx code. take out the SD card and with the machine showing the code press "143 C C C". after the 3rd clear you will hear a beep from the machine. Turn the machine off and reinstall the SD card with a fresh copy of the firmware that you were going to install.

      Good luck

Afaik the Bicu for both models are the same . I would be more leaning towards a controller board than a Bicu though. Unfortunately, they are different .

I had to do this once years ago after a failed flash.

I don't remember the exact model or what happened (it was at least 6 or so years ago), but it worked like a charm.

Re: mpc3501 after firmware failure will not boot up

i am formatting a new sd card using the panasonic sd formatter and will try to get to an error screen or the firmware screen.
barring that working i do have a 2nd mpc3501 but dont want to chance having two" boat anchors ".
As i dont stock any boards just parts machines unless i start to get too many and then i strip them out.
how do you guys handle the "please wait issue?
            thnx"

tried a new sd card and also a new copy of FW WITH AND W/OUT the machines top slot sd card and nada..............

ricohs can drive you to the edge at times,i guess i gotta part out my 2nd mpc3501 and see if its the controller or bicu brd.
When you reference "changing the controller",are you swapping the whole swing out box with or w/out HDD and fax option?
              thnx

                "the code press "143 C C C""

Maybe it is not too clear what was writen before...
To reset the firmware update error, reboot the machine, and when the error appears do this:

Yellow Button -> numbers -> red button 3x wait -> main power off "red button"
                Clear modes, 1,4,3 ,clear/stop, clear/stop, clear/stop, reboot

Insert sd card with good firmware start again update proces.

This is why i do not update the adf firmware. I had a tech create a boat anchor out of a machine when he updated the adf firmware.....

If the original SD card was JAVA and you had initially removed it without first stopping JAVA in User Tools, you have cratered the the controller board and the JAVA card.

i didnt mess with any extended features as i recall i think that APP2ME option was installed on this unit.
i popped the nvram off and connected power and powered up and got a sc 842 code from missing NVRAM.
But still it sits in please wait mode.
im thinking of just swapping out the swing out box with IOB,BCU,HDD and controller brd and just swapping NVRAM..
My concern is i dont want 2 boat anchors.
i can alway deal with troubleshooting when i free time.

It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

                        Hit it.

i was able to load system and engine and it was slot 2,which was bottom slot..issue was when trying network and ADF
at the same time..i am leaning towards BICU ..

                          per manual
insert the SD card into SD Card Slot 2. Make sure the label on the SD card faces the
                          front side of the machine.

i get the confusion, what i was saying is i tried loading FW with and without the slot 1 sd card"in this case
a postscript card" and installed the FW card in slot 2 all times.
