MPC2051 - washed out RGB colours -SOLVED!

This may be old news to some, but could save someone a heap of money, so please bare with me.

We received an MPC2051 for reman, and initial testing revealed that the CMYK colours were mostly fine, but RGB colours were all washed out - it actually looked like something was arcing.

We troubleshooted with a known working machine, starting with drum units and such, and isolated the problem to the ITB unit.

I proceeded to strip the belt off the ITB, after checking it, and not finding any damage or wear on it.

Next i checked the transfer rollers for any breakage or damage - none.

Looking further i discovered the the transfer roller closest to the doorside of the ITB had a shiny glaze to it, and a rough texture.

I cleaned it with a lint free cloth moistened with water, until no dirt came off anymore. The roller was then dried and the unit re-assembled.

The attached scans tell the story.

From looking at your scanned file, the original problem appears to be a bind on one end of both the cyan and magenta transfer rollers. By your description of the location of the roller you cleaned, it was the black transfer roller. Most likely in disassembling and reassembling the ITB unit, you cleared the bind.
