[Misc] SP 5210 and MP 5054

A customer has asked if we can take over maintenance on several SP 5210's and one MP 5054.
The units are only a few months old. Are there any issues with these models that we should be aware of when pricing this contract?
Do the maintenance kits typically last for their rated life?
Any gears, bearings or other parts we that should keep on hand?

    Many thanks!

      ^^^^ Ditto.
Buy a brand new fusing unit (and try not to have a stroke due to the cost) and a fusing sleeve and pressure roller and refurbish the fusing unit.
It'll save you money in the long run.
We rebuild now rather than replace as the new series of Ricoh parts prices are ridiculous.

Life of maintenance parts is partially based on whether or not the MFP is being used within it intend design pages per job. Wear is actually based parts rotations and not pages printed. In normal operation, parts start to rotate as soon as job starts and stop when the last sheet has exited. This leads to additional rotations prior to the lead edge of the first page getting drum and fuser and additional rotation after trail edge of the last page leaves. Also SEF adds additional rotations per job than are required by LEF.

Another thing to keep an eye on with the 5210 series is the top cassette has a tendency to break the locking tabs on either side from users slamming a full cassette into the machine. Contrary to popular belief, 500 sheets of paper is somewhat heavy... and Newton's 3rd Law of Motion being what it is, eventually you'll get breakage.

Easiest way to tell you're got this problem is, if you pull the top cassette out of the machine, and the rear portion of the cassette stays behind.

          Good luck.

We found for the MP 5054 a new PCDU and waste toner bottle were cheaper than the PM kit and dv and drum. Also, a lot faster to swap out.

The 54 series PM kits come with the drum and developer in the box. At least that's the way they leave the Ricoh warehouse.

I wonder what's different with your pricing that the whole PCDU is cheaper than the PM kit. Even looking on precision roller the PM kit is cheaper.

I've found that the 54 series machines we have in the field will got to expected or beyond rated life for the drum units and usually the same for the fusers. However the bulk of the machines we have are prison machines and they get used at or beyond expected use. I don't know how many pages per job they average though.

Lots of low page jobs will murder your PM life.

The biggest thing I've noticed is that the scanner rails tend to squeak, but a little oil or grease solves that quickly. Also the paper exit rollers will do the same and removing the unit to grease them is tedious, especially if they have a finisher as you have to remove that and the bridge unit first. Though you may be lucky and your machine is recent enough that it was properly greased from the factory.

As an update to this yesterday I visited one of our prison 3554's. It's between 2 and 3 years old and has nearly 600k on it. The drum unit has 248k on it and still works great.
