    Ricoh C5503 - SC554

I think I see why the machine is upset. I wonder why it decided to do this to itself.

Looks like the customer has damaged it with a staple etc

These newer fusers don't take a lot to rip themselves to pieces. Unfortunately we tend to find them so badly torn we can't find the evidence to charge the customer.

Flimsy films may warm up faster but I still prefer a good chunky roller [emoji106]

The sleeves for 02s and 03s have had several part number changes, to try and counter these problems. However, they still occur. If possible, replace the stripper plate as well, these get bent when the sleeve tears.

Also, try to clean the stripper plate and output guide as often as you can; both can build up with toner and snag the sleeve.

I believe the pressure rollers use the original PN, most of the time they are damaged by a customer sticking a pen in the fuser to clear a jam.

I've been seeing a lot of these lately. A lot of broken gears on 5503's, too. A 30 year tech told me the other day I've done more fuser jobs than he has in his entire career.

Not had any real issues with the 03 sleeves at all, most of the time I get a call out for the "call service - replace hot roller" message as the unit has gone past PM life!

02 yes were awful, around 80k was the norm

The gears seem to be getting stripped due to previous techs not applying enough or simply no grease during the installation of a pressure roller. I mean, it does say to do it in the manual...

What is this "manual" you speak of??

Nothing works quite so well that I can't totally disable it by trying to make it a little better.

I think the gears are getting stripped due to the gear material being too soft

The gears are modified now too & seem to last.

They purposefully make the gears out of this material so the gears fail before the machine immolates itself, I believe.
