[Jamming] what determines a msfd/jam count

I quite often have calls from upset customers about the copier habitually msfdg/jamming yet the info from the print out says otherwise; number of msfds/jams since last visit very few compared to number customer says. My question; if copier msfds/jams and it does so several times consecutively before a copy comes through will each of those msfds/jams be counted so the number seen will be lets say 4 msfds/jams or as 1 msfd/jam until a copy has gone through???
    Thanks!!!

The easiest way is to look at the smc report and see what the meter count was for the last 10 jams.

Look at the jam location area of the SMC report. You will most likely have a large number of jam code 000 jams. Jam code 000 jams are not included in the jam total as they are not true jams. They are paper found at a jam sensor either at power up or when a door is closed. Usual cause are the door switches used in the bridge unit.

It would count 4 jams. Lets say a stripper was out of position in the fuser causing jams. It's possible to cram more sheets into the fuser jam with no output, and logging data will show those sheets too, but the total counter will remain the same.

It's also possible that when it jams with multiple sheets of paper in the feed path the customer counts that as multiple jams. If I had a nickle for every time I heard "it's jamming everywhere" I wouldn't be fixing copiers.

But as slimslob mentioned bridge unit and door switches can get twitchy. I've had some bridge units so touchy that even bumping them would cause an open door detection. The stud that pushes down on the switch breaks easy too.
