    Ricoh MP161 Memeory Expansion Options?

    Hello,
Very informative forum you guys have, thanks for all the information.

I have an office using a MP161 and they are needing to do larger volume of high resolution scanning. They are running into memory limitations.
Is it possible to swap out a memory module to something larger?

    Thanks for any insight
    Dean

The SPF-version has 384Mb memory. There's no additional memory available. I don't know what happens if you put in a larger memory module.

What resolutions are we talking about?

      Thanks for the reply,

They would like to do double sided 50+ pages (100+ single sided pages) at 600 DPI (Very Detailed Pages) At the moment they can get around 50-60ish single pages at 400 DPI.
They are also interested in 600DPI colour scanning.

Do you know what sort of memory is in the machine? If it is some sort of standard interface or is it specialized? I can try sticking in a larger unit if it is standardized.

I see they use a couple SD cards in this unit, I was not sure if they considered Flash Cards as 'memory'

      Thanks
      Dean

The SD cards are not used for scanning. Your best bet is to upgrade the machine. You might be able to put in a larger memory stick, but I don't know the type used. You're best bet is probably to upgrade to a larger machine, or possibly to use the Twain scanning. I don't know, but the Twain may purge the pages as they are scanned, allowing you to scan more than the capacity of the machine memory.

For the kind of scanning they're looking for, an MP161 is a bad choice. Anything with a document server they could scan to and then download to a PC or a larger model (MP2550 and on) with a hard drive that will hold more.
The SD card slots are for specific function cards, not additional memory.
