Sandman, you're brave on clearing NVRAM on Ricoh color box. We had several cases in our area where we cannot repair the color registration and density after a newbie tech clear it by mistake.

Sandy like me has been around Ricoh equipment for decades. We know how to safely clear memory. I even know how to correct color alignment manually when force line position fails.

First of all, Debs, You are correct after-all!
(On a personal note, I've been meaning to say how nice it is to have you back around here adding your expertise to the forum!!)

I think I may just not have given it enough time when I tried the first time, but I'll be damned if the fan doesn't stop after about a minute when I disconnect the network cable! (BTW, it's the cooling fan on the controller board)

However, it doesn't seem to have anything to do with drivers specifically
It starts up the second that I connect the network cable, even with no driver installed on my PC pointed towards the machine. I've tried changing the IP address on the machine, and Setting DHCP. No change.
It was connected to a wireless range extender, and I tried it connected directly to my router, and a different cable. No change.

Performed complete Memory clear, and re-entered ALL non-defaults.....an exercise in futility!

Luca suggested overwriting the F/W, but if I try to do so, it just says 'complete' without doing anything, and I don't have any older versions to try rolling it back.

Any other suggestions for this one?
You will get this message if you try to install the same package firmware.

But since many files are not included with the package, the GW controller firmware for example, I would try updating any module version not included in the package using the romdata method.

          Why thank you

I would try going into printer properties on the print driver, go to the ports tab (I assume it's on standard TCP/IP) configure port, then try unchecking the SNMP status enabled box

Bravery is not a required trait when you print off the non-default values first (as I stated).....but patience is

I don't have the package F/W for this model - only the romdata files, and that's the result I got

I did try that before, but again, the fan even fires up the moment the machine is just just connected to a switch - before even even connecting the switch to a network.

              Hello.

Is there a solution for this fan issue? I'm having the same problem and it is driving me crazy. Nothing but unplugging Ethernet cable helps.

I personally never resolved the issue with the unit. I delivered it, and haven't been back since.
However, your revival of this thread, and reviewing Tim's comment at the time about possibly being connected to a POE jack or device, has got me thinking about it again, and that could in fact be the answer.
The entire time I had the machine on my network (and currently the network it's connected to at its new "home') it was connected to a plugged in wireless range extender, and even when I added the switch, it remained connected to that device, and I believe this setup would be about the same as a POE
I don't know why I never thought to roll it into another room and connect it directly to my router and see if that made a difference, but I feel like it may have.

I obviously have no idea how your device is connected to your network, but if it's on a wireless extender, (or POE type port as Tim suggested) I'd look at trying an alternative connection

I have the same issue with my MP C401, no matter if it is connected directly to the router or through an unmanaged HP switch, both without POE. Maybe blocking something with a managed switch could help?
Turning off IPv6, SNMP, SSDP, Bonjour, AirPrint, SMB in the printer configuration did not stop the fan.

You could be right. AN simple network hub, router or unmanaged switch might be presenting all network traffic to the C401 causing the C401 to prepare for a print job.

Well, my device is connected through a simple switch, however I've tried connecting it directly to my router and nothing changed. I guess I will have to get used to this annoying noise

Does the fans even shut down if you remove the network cable?

Edit: Sorry I overlooked that informamation.

What happen if you do a test with a direct LAN connection to a laptop?

I have not tried a laptop test before. Will do later today and maybe I will check how does it behave when using only a usb connection.

Direct LAN connection to a laptop = same behaviour as with a router.

OK, I guess it's crap by design then

I have something similar going on with KM, cpu fan (a little noisy one) on a A4 color MFP spin all the time. After ~3-4 years KM modified the base board pcb to enable "fan off" during standby.
Even the lamest PC on earth comes with fan control options via software/bios.....

and closing ports 631, 443 in the device configuration did not help also
