People who do this are pure evil

I have attached a picture of what some engineers/users seem to do… sticking the glass cleaner holder on the side of the machine. Why in the hell would you do this?! Now going through a tight doorway it will hit the door frame! As the machine is thinner going through forwards or backwards as opposed to sideways.
Besides it looks ridiculous a pure flat side with just that bit sticking out. Hang up your nut driver and vac, you’re done.

    1. Apparently you are new to Ricoh. On older models the duplex unit made them wider left to right than front to back, Martini models excepted which were already wider.
    2. It was the closest proximity to the slit glass which the cloth was intended to clean.
    3. Ricoh recommended it.

Nope, been around long enough. The ‘02 series was the last ones with the fat side door duplex which used to make it wider.
Since that point ‘03 onwards there should be no reason to put them on the side like that. This is an IMC model in the pic, totally flat top to bottom on the left side of machine except for that stuck on in an awkward place which I will now remove and stick back on to the front where it belongs. I even had some guys from Ricoh years ago come out to help me move/install some 5504’s and they said ‘oh good you didnt stick this on the side, we hate it when people do that as it hits things in narrow places’. The days on the side are long gone

Ask your customer where they want it before you install it. Tell them what it is but don't make any recommendations. Nearly 100% of mine did not want it

We stick it on the front scanner cover, in line with the laser slit glass. That way when they call and say getting lines on copies through the DF we can say use the cloth to clean it and describe where it is. Luckily due to the black strip they put on the glass, it doesn’t happen very often any more. As we universally do it on all machines, the ladies that take the calls ask customers to clean the glass so engineers don’t have to do it while we’re out doing stuff.

I have found that about 50% of the time they don't work. They may remove dust and lint but not anything stuck like ink and whiteout. Those require an alcohol prep pad.

By the way, when we’re not troubleshooting copiers, we love to unwind with a bit of sports betting. It’s a fun way to add some excitement after a day of fieldwork. If you’re into it too, there is a site out there with fantastic odds and promotions
It is always better to warn customers about such small things to minimize the need for maintenance.

i don't install that until the copier has been setup. because generally the copier will never leave that area. unless something major happens. and i tell the customer where it is and what it is used for. i give a tutorial on using a new copier. and then they know when to use it or use a solution.

I would of hoped it went without saying but alas I will say it. We do explain how to use the machines and some basic tips/tricks to helping solve very minor issues…
It is not realistic to expect dozens of people to remember and people that aren’t there on installation day though

What ever happened to the concept of a "Key Operator"? The Key Operator is fully trained on the operation of the copier and is then responsible for assiting and training other people in the office.

You are right...but try to look for a "Key Operator" in an city hall or public administration...OK! i talk for here in Italy, maybe in US its different. But what happens here is that i explain the functions of the copier to more people as possible at that moment...but anyway we got a lot of "stupid" service calls regarding the main functions of the machine...i found a Key operator only three or four times during my career.

I usually never attach them, and when I find them I detach them and throw them away... because as slimslob says, that rag is not capable of cleaning anything at all.
if the customer asks me what it is for?.... I tell him that it is to clean his glasses if they are dirty and he can't see the messages on the copier display well... LOL

I thought the same thing, until I got it for my glasses, although it also works to clean the id
