Ricoh SPC 842dn - Toner is leaking inside the drum unit and running out very quickly.

    Hello,

My Ricoh SPC 842dn printer is experiencing toner leakage for the red and yellow colors, with toner spilling into the drum unit and even falling onto the laser glass below (please see the attached images). Additionally, the toner running out extremely fast . This issue reoccurs after I completely clean the drum unit and print several dozen pages. Meanwhile, the black and cyan drum units are functioning normally.

I have already replaced the drum, drum cleaning blade, and secondary blade, but the issue persists. Could there be a problem with the toner pump, causing excess toner to be supplied to the drum and leading to leakage? Or perhaps the seal inside the developer unit is damaged?

I hope someone who has encountered and resolved this issue can assist me.

    Thank you!

so without the counter in hand, I would say that it is the developer discharged and/or the development units that need replacing, I understand the costs... but I would have replaced the parts entirely, it is the only guarantee

Your SPC 842 is running on the verge of being over toned. In SP settings you need to slightly reduce the target levels for all development units. To compensate for quality reduction you need to slightly increase development bias, drum charge and ITB transfer bias.

Looks like maybe toner problem? Is it generic off brand toner? Use only genuine Ricoh toner.

          Hi slimslob,

I found two settings in the SP System: Common:FC:Bias and TC adjust Process Control:Bias. Are these the settings you were referring to? (Please see the attached image).

In these settings, I noticed that the values for M (Magenta) and Y (Yellow) are always higher than BK (Black) and C (Cyan). Should I increase or decrease these values?

          Thank you!

Hi anothertech, thank you for your comment,

No, I am using third-party toner because the genuine Ricoh toner is too expensive in my area. If I use original toner, I wouldn’t have any profit. However, I have been using third-party toner for over a year without any issues, and this problem only started happening today. I understand that toner could be a potential cause, but I want to rule out other possibilities step by step.

As expensive as losing a customer?
