Re: Drum damaged by developer on Ricoh MP5500/6001/7000/7500 etc series
Hi guys, we have a lot of Ricoh MP5500/6001/7000/7500 series.
Sometimes they have this problem:
The amount of developer inside the development unit decreases and it's attracted to the drum.
A large quantity of developer also accumulates under the cleaning blade, causing damage to the drum.
Has this happened to any of you? How can it be fixed?
Thank you very much
Do not use the used one, use new.Leave a comment:

We all go through it once in while,
You could also try to replace the existing set of developer agitator bushing with this one with the seal and of course have provisioning for covering
of registration/feed unit with seals as suggested in this thread.B0703170 BUSHING CASE: FRONT ASSY: This part is from Aficio 551/700.A2943173 BUSHING SEAL
It can increase the life cycle of bushings.
I hope it helps.Leave a comment:

Maybe that is why I never had to replace bushings or anything else even though I had machines go over 5M before being traded in. And continue to work at another placement. Always used Genuine Ricoh and always did PMs within 5 % over recommended. Now the conductive bearing in the drum shaft holder were another thing. Replaced a couple of holders until some one posted the part number for the bearing here on CTN.
problems I have not had....but I can not say that it is betterLeave a comment:

If you are using the genuine toner, you may not need to change the bushings or anything else.
However, if you use Compatible toner you may need to replace the developer agitator bushing every 200k-400k cycle and the worst case scenario can have a spillover effect on the paper registration and feeding unit down below.
So, be careful with the compatible toner!Maybe that is why I never had to replace bushings or anything else even though I had machines go over 5M before being traded in. We found that the problem was solved when the developer unit changed the magnet, we had the same problem before.Leave a comment:

Sorry to "hijack" the thread, so to speak, but what parts that can be ordered from Ricoh do you guys, from experience, replace preventatively in order to keep the developing unit functioning for as long as possible and prevent the spillage of developer everywhere?
I have heard that the all 4 x 8mm bushings should be replaced every other developer change (assuming they are done at 350-400k), is there anything else?

It will be a good option to replace the development module and
you could also look to replace the LED array that sits on top of drum in the drum unit.

True! After 800k prints,
this problem can occur, I have found that it happens from model 9000 upwards, perhaps the material of the bushings yields as the speed of the machine increases (?)
Infact, i put a cover over the station zone, with a short strip of magnetic adesive cuttable, that catch and keep the falled developer, and protect the espensive martini pick up station.

I would try to change the seals of the PCU and the cleaning brush.Leave a comment:

With those all being older models, you most likely have excessively worn shaft seals. They probably also have had problems with developer/toner getting on the first feed module. In fact I have a feeling that you have already had to replace one-way gears on the feed module as a result of paper jamming.
